BMW M5 Touring Estate to Debut with 716bhp on August 15

New 716bhp BMW M5 Touring Estate Set for Reveal on August 15 The new BMW M5 Touring is officially set to make its global debut on August 15 during this year’s Monterey Car Week. This marks the return of the M5 Touring after a 14-year hiatus; the previous E61 model ended production in 2010. The new M5 Touring, the third generation of this model, will feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain instead of the classic 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V10.

The upcoming M5 Touring will mirror the latest BMW M5 saloon in terms of performance, offering a combined output of 717bhp and 1,000Nm of torque. It will be powered by a 4.4-liter V8 engine delivering 576bhp and 750Nm of torque, complemented by an electric motor that produces up to 194bhp and 280Nm of torque. This setup will be supported by a 19.6kWh battery, enabling a pure-electric range of approximately 40 miles.

The new M5 Touring will accelerate from 0-62mph in around 3.5 seconds, just slightly slower than the saloon version. Power will be distributed to all four wheels via BMW’s eight-speed automatic transmission and M xDrive system. Drivers will also have the option to select a rear-wheel-drive mode with deactivated stability control for a more dynamic driving experience.

The M5 Touring is expected to offer around 550 liters of boot space, nearly 100 liters more than the M5 saloon, based on the practicality of the plug-in hybrid 5 Series Touring. Pricing for the new M5 Touring is anticipated to exceed the starting price of the M5 saloon, which is currently £111,405.

Competitors in this high-performance estate segment will include the 603bhp Mercedes-AMG E 53 4Matic+ estate and the 621bhp Audi RS 6 Avant Performance, with the latter eventually being succeeded by the next-generation Audi RS 7 Avant.
