Dairy farmers in Karachi want the price of milk at Rs300 per liter
Dairy and cattle farmers in Karachi are asking for a big increase in the price of milk. They want to add Rs80 to the current price per liter.
Earlier, these farmers had agreed with the Karachi commissioner to keep the milk price at Rs220 per liter until December 2024. Now, they want to cancel this agreement and set a higher price. Their new proposal is to set the price at Rs300 per liter. They are requesting an official notification to make this change official.
The dairy and cattle farmers association has formally submitted their request to the Karachi Commissioner. They want the commissioner to issue a new notification that shows the higher price they are asking for.
The association says they need the price increase to keep their farms running and meet the higher demand for milk.
On June 13, the Karachi commissioner announced a new price for milk after talking with the dairy farmers association. According to the announcement, the retail price of milk is now Rs 220 per liter, which is an increase of Rs 20 per liter. The wholesale price for sellers and the price paid to dairy farmers are set at Rs 205 and Rs 195 per liter, respectively.
