LPL 2024 Has Shadab Khan Returned to Peak Form?
Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan has been showcasing exceptional form with the ball during his stint with Colombo Strikers in the 2024 Lanka Premier League (LPL). Following a challenging T20 World Cup campaign where he struggled to take wickets, Shadab has made a remarkable comeback, emerging as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 14 dismissals in six matches, averaging 8.64.
In a standout performance against Jaffna Kings, Shadab achieved his best figures of 4/10 and earned his second Player of the Match award. He came close to a hat-trick, narrowly missing out on dismissing Vijayakanth Viyaskanth after successfully removing Avishka Fernando and Fabien Allen. Shadab expressed confidence in his dismissal of Viyaskanth, suggesting a possible technology issue.
Despite the slower pitch conditions, Shadab emphasized the importance of sticking to their game plans, noting the pitch’s favorability towards spinners who bowl accurately. Reflecting on his recent form, he acknowledged the ups and downs inherent in cricket, expressing hope that his resurgence would continue to benefit both his current team and the Pakistan national squad.
Earlier in the month, Shadab marked his LPL debut with a hat-trick against Kandy Falcons, dismissing Wanindu Hasaranga, Salman Ali Agha, and Pavan Rathnayake to finish with figures of 4/22.
Shadab’s return to peak performance marks a positive development for both himself and the Pakistan cricket team.
