Heavy Rains and Flash Floods Claim 8 Lives Across Pakistan

The casualties resulted from incidents of heavy rain, flash floods, and roof collapses.
In Punjab, three laborers—Rizwan (40), Wasif (18), and Mansoor (30)—died when a roof in FIEDMC Economic Zone collapsed under accumulated rainwater. Another worker, Rashid (55), sustained severe injuries. In a separate incident in Iqbal Nagar, Samundri, Khalid (40) and his three-year-old son perished when their roof caved in during the rain. In Chak 431/GB, Abida (35) was killed when her home’s roof collapsed. Additionally, Sajida (40), her son Rizwan (18), and daughter Hira (15) were injured when their roof gave way on Narwala Road near Aminpur Bypass. Another roof collapse at a roadside eatery on Jhumra Road injured Samira (36) and Ali Haider (17).
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning for potential urban flooding due to ongoing heavy rains and strong winds. Cities like Lahore, Sialkot, and Narowal are at high risk of urban flooding in the next 24 to 48 hours. There is also a forecast of medium to high-level flood surges in the Chenab River and increased flash flood risks in mountainous regions such as Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur.
In Chakdarra’s Adenzai tehsil, two teenagers, Sudais (12) and Hassan (15), drowned in a seasonal spring. Flash floods caused significant damage in Garhi Baloch and Jandola Bazaar in Tank, inundating homes and shops.
In Balochistan, torrential rains have led to widespread damage. In Chaman, the storm caused the collapse of houses, walls, and solar panels, injuring ten people, and destroying the Sadiq Cricket Stadium. In Quetta, heavy rains have led to power outages and washed away parts of the Quetta-Chaman railway track. Rainwater has also disrupted communications and caused flooding in various areas of Dera Allah Yar.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reports that rain has affected Khuzdar, Loralai, Sibi, Zhob, and Muslim Bagh, with varying rainfall amounts recorded. The department predicts continued rain and thunderstorms in Qila Saifullah, Mastung, and other areas, with hot and partially cloudy weather expected in many regions.
While Karachi was initially forecasted to experience heavy rains, the monsoon system has moved toward central and upper Sindh, with the city now expected to see light to moderate rain. Other Sindh cities, including Jacobabad, Larkana, Dadu, Shikarpur, Ghotki, and Sukkur, are still under threat of heavy rain.
